After a break of more than two months, the competitions of the third round of the Qatar Sand Drag Competition resumed at Sealine during the weekend, sponsored by HE Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad al-Thani, Chairman of Qatar Racing Club (QRC).
The event witnessed the participation of 145 competitors from the Gulf champions of sand racing, whether for cars, bikes, quads, buggies, and polaris vehicles in their various categories.
The first day, dedicated to competitions of 10 categories, witnessed strong competitions and remarkable performances.
Tareq al-Fahad recorded the best time in the open ATV category with a time of 3.262s, securing the first place, while Mohamed al-Mazmi was second, and Mashari al-Turki third.
Al-Mazmi later ascended the podium winning the modified category, ahead of Abdullah al-Mazmi in second place and Mishaal al-Fahad in third place.
In the stock category, Mohamed Abbas Eidi claimed the top place, while the second and third places went to Saleh al-Amer and Nawaf al-Sharaa respectively.
In the competitions of cars equipped with 6-cylinder engines, Bandar al-Yehia won the Turbo category, ahead of Walid al-Dughayyim (second) and Abdulrahman al-Saeed (third).
Meanwhile, Mohamed al-Sharshani clinched the title in the nitrous category, with Walid Shah and Khalifa al-Meir claiming leaving the second and third places respectively.
In the cars’ stock category, Mohamed Hakami emerged victorious, followed by Ali Hassan al-Mutawa in second, and Ali Mubarak al-Badr in third place.
As usual, the motorcycle category was characterised by wide participation and thrilling competitions, with Hamed Rahimbore achieving the best time to win first place, followed by Jasim Rahimbore in second place and Khalid al-Mahandi in third place.
The podium for the polaris category for juniors went to Nasser al-Saliti, Rashid al-Drouish, and Yousef Aga respectively.
Competitions of cars equipped with 8-cylinder engines also saw exciting struggles, with Walid Salem ultimately winning the modified category, followed by Abdulrahman al-Mansour in second place and Eid Khalid al-Menaai in third place. Walid Salem returned to the podium again by finishing third in the stock category, which was won by Mahmoud Diab, while Abdullah al-Wareed came in second place.
Six categories were competed on the second day with ten competitors managing to break the four-second barrier. The best times came in the Polaris Unlimited category, which was won by Ya’qub al-Alawi, securing the top podium place ahead of Ibrahim al-Darmaki and Ahmed al-Balushi.
The most thrilling competitions were in the buggy categories, where Abdullah al-Saliti and Mohamed Saliti shared the first and second place podiums in both the stock and modified (Vanco) categories, with Abdullah winning the stock category and placing second in the Modified, while Mohamed claimed the modified title and settled for second place in the stock category.
The third place on the podium was secured by Mohamed Hassan in the stock category and Abdulrahman al-Nuaimi in the modified category.
The results of the final categories, the Hilux category, saw Omar al-Yahya crowned champion, ahead of Osama al-Marzouq, who settled for second place, while the third place was not awarded.
Sheikh Jabor bin Khalid al-Thani, director of QRC, crowned the winners of the first three positions in the participating categories of the day.
The fourth and final round of the challenge will take place this weekend on March 7 and 8, organisers confirmed on Monday.
