Qatar Youth Hostels has launched their winning youth initiative, which secured the first place in the 2023 Tourism Ideas Incubator Programme, by Fatima Mahna al-Sulaiti under the title "The Green Fort."
This coincided with the marking of the Qatar Environment Day that falls on February 26 each year. The initiative focuses on the importance of appreciating the cultural and environmental heritage in Qatar, raising awareness about mangrove trees and the adjacent areas, supporting sustainable tourism and environmental initiatives in the country, in addition to promoting youth initiatives related to sustainable tourism.
Qatar Youth Hostels launched the "Green Fort" initiative by organising a tour of the mangrove trees. Besides, a workshop on "the Environmental Heritage" will be held as part of the initiative programme, covering topics related to Qatar's Vision 2030, environmental development, Qatari tangible and intangible heritage, plant identification and preservation methods.
The initiative will launch several other diverse events in the coming period to achieve its primary goal, which is to establish the first sustainable Arab Youth Hostels headquarters. Qatar Youth Hostels hope that these initiatives and events will contribute to enhancing environmental and tourism awareness among youth in Qatar.
