Khaled Al Shahania cruises to victory

Nasser Mohamed Kazim al-Ansari-owned Khaled Al Shahania won the Baida Algae Cup at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s (QREC) Al Rayyan Racecourse on Wednesday.
The Ahmed Kobeissi-trained bay colt, a locally produced novice, opened his winning career on Wednesday in fifth start under jockey Ivan Rossi. He finished one length ahead of Sheikh Khalifa bin Abdulla AJ al-Thani’s Azooz to win the 1700m feature for Local Purebred Arabian Novice Plate for four-year-old+. Abdulla Jaber RK al-Hajri’s Mehry came third.
Alberto Sanna guided High And Wide, in the colours of Yousuf Bakhit al-Kuwari, to his first victory of the season. The five year-old bay gelding defeated Abdulaziz Ali al-Kathiri’s Millions to win the the Thoroughbred Handicap (70-90) for three-year-old+. In the opening race of the meeting, Al Rufaa Racing’s Al Motasim won the 1900m contest for the four-year-old Thoroughbred Handicap (45-65).
