The Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities, one of the Qatar Social Work Foundation's centres, a Ministry of Social Development and Family-affiliate, celebrated its 25th anniversary, advancing Qatar's social development, empowering persons with disabilities and integrating them in society.
The celebrations included the honouring of media establishments that support the centre, with the Qatar News Agency (QNA) being among them. Commenting on the occasion, Executive Director of the Shafallah Center Maryam Saif al-Suwaidi said that supporting and empowering persons with disabilities is an integral part of Qatar National Vision 2030, stemming from its belief in the protection of human rights in general, and the rights of persons with disabilities in particular.
Al-Suwaidi added that Shafallah plays a pioneering role in providing specialized services for people with disabilities, particularly special education and rehabilitative, therapeutic and psychological services, on par with leading international institutions in the field.
The Executive Director of the Shafallah Center noted Qatar's remarkable progress in advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities and their integration, setting it as an urgent priority. She added that this becomes evident upon comparing Qatar's first National Development Strategy 2011-2016 to its second (2018-2022), as the second strategy becomes even more inclusive.
Consequently, al-Suwaidi said that the third national development strategy (2024-2030) emphasises Qatar's commitment to improving the lives of the most vulnerable groups, ensuring them with support and opportunities for an active participation in society, in addition to the further development of the social centers for persons with disabilities.
