HE the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali bin Issa al Hassan al-Mohannadi emphasised the significance of community participation in the National Sport Day, as an embodiment of the wise vision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to build the nation and its citizens and to implement national development plans on a sound and balanced foundation.
In celebrating the 13th National Sport Day, the Ministry of Justice and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers organised joint activities at the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) with wide participation from their staff members, he said, adding that human development is an important pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030. This unique vision demonstrates the wise leadership's focus on building and nurturing the Qatari citizens intellectually, mentally and physically through the establishment of an integrated sport infrastructure to serve the community and to enhance the country's global standing.
Inspired by the sporting spirit bolstered by Qatar's sporting successes, the Ministry of Justice and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers developed an integrated programme, in co-operation with UDST, to enhance partnerships between government and academic institutions in organising sport events, enabling the exchange of experiences and successful sports experiences, and acquiring new skills. This aims to raise citizens' awareness about the importance of sports, and urge them to change their lifestyles to include healthy practices in a way that highlights sports' moral and human values, health benefits, educates citizens and residents about its importance in daily life, and encourages them to practice it throughout the year, he added.
The sporting activities featured warm-up and walking exercises, football competitions between the Ministry of Justice and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers teams, along with basketball, handball, and padel events. A health corner for biometric measurements was established, offering health and nutritional advice to participants, provided by specialists in nutritional health.
Additionally, sports activities for children were organised to instill a culture of sports and to spread interest among the young generation, reinforcing the goals related to spreading awareness about the significance of practicing sports as a healthy behaviour among different age groups in the society.
