Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced his resignation on Monday.
The announcement came ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections due by October.
"Today, I am leaving the post of prime minister," Garibashvili told a press conference, adding that he would become chairman of the Georgian Dream after the party congress on Feb. 1.
The current chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party Irakli Kobakhidze would take the place of Garibashvili.
Garibashvili is the Prime Minister of Georgia since 2021. He previously served as Prime Minister from 2013 until 2015.
