HE Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari stressed the importance of the decisions and procedural decisions of the 154th the WHO Executive Board meetings, which concluded in Geneva under the presidency of the State of Qatar.
At the conclusion of the meetings, HE Al Kuwari, who chairs the current WHO Board, said that these decisions and procedural decisions contribute to strengthening the WHO's efforts to reach practical solutions to various health challenges.
Among the key decisions and procedural decisions approved during the meetings were a procedural decision to present a draft resolution on promoting health and well-being through sport events.
Submitted by the State of Qatar to be adopted by the 77th World Health Assembly in May 2024, the draft resolution earned support from many sides, including the EU countries, the African Union countries, China, Belarus, Malaysia, China, Panama, and the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean region.
This draft resolution was the result of the accumulated experiences and legacy of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to make it a beacon of health and safety for all future major global sporting events, and to confirm that sport and health are two interconnected elements and a source of happiness and prosperity for the world.
The Board also adopted a resolution, co-proposed by the State of Qatar, on health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, the Global Health and Peace Initiative (GHPI) resolution. It also adopted the procedural decision to present a draft resolution, co-proposed by Qatar, on increasing availability, ethical access and oversight of transplantation of human cells, tissues and organs to the 77th World Health Assembly in May 2024 for adoption.
