A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Aegean Sea off the coast of western Turkiye on Saturday.

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that the epicenter of the earthquake was off the coast of the Mandaris district in the Izmir province, occurring in the Gulf of Kusadasi at a depth of 8.51 kilometers.

On Feb. 6, 2023, southern Turkiye and northern Syria were struck by earthquakes of magnitudes 7.7 and 7.6, followed by thousands of violent aftershocks. The disaster, centered in the province of Kahramanmaras, claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people and caused extensive damage in 11 Turkish provinces. (QNA)
