UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the Israeli entitys rejection of the two-state solution as "unacceptable" and "would indefinitely prolong a conflict."
This came during Guterres' remarks at a session of the UN Security Council (UNSC) at the ministerial level "on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question."
"Last weeks clear and repeated rejection of the two-State solution at the highest levels of the Israeli government is unacceptable," Guterres said.
"And any refusal to accept the two-State solution by any party must be firmly rejected," the UN Secretary-General added.
He affirmed that "The two-State solution is the only way to address the legitimate aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians."
Guterres pointed out that the entire population of Gaza is enduring destruction at a scale and speed without parallel in recent history in unjustified collective punishment of the Palestinian people.
"With disease and hunger raging and needs skyrocketing in the midst of winter, UN humanitarians and partners are striving to deliver despite overwhelming challenges," he said.
"I renew my appeal for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. This will ensure sufficient aid gets to where it is needed," he stressed.
The occupation continues its intense and unprecedented aggression against the Gaza Strip for the 110th day, launching dozens of air strikes and shelling by land and sea, leaving tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded, most of whom are children and women, while thousands of martyrs and wounded are still under the rubble and on the roads, as ambulance and civil defense crews cannot reach them.
