Qatar Museums announced that it selected the installation "Plantoir, Blue" to be displayed at Expo Doha 2023, taking place in Al Bidda Park, as part of its ongoing initiative to nurture Qatars thriving cultural landscape.
Qatar Museums said in a statement that it selected "Plantoir, Blue" for the International Horticultural Expo as an example of Qatars remarkable collection of both local and international artists whose work is presented in Qatars public spaces.
The statement added that the French noun Plantoir is a pointed hand-tool for making holes in the ground for seeds or young plants, and that the art installation was fabricated from aluminum, fiber-reinforced plastic, and steel by American Pop Art master Claes Oldenburg in 2001, with Plantoir standing more than 23-feet tall and weighs around 2,300 pounds.
Claes Oldenburg (January 28, 1929 July 18, 2022) was a Swedish-born American sculptor best known for his public art installations, typically featuring large replicas of everyday objects.
Expo 2023 Doha represents a global platform to upgrade the mechanisms of supporting agricultural sector in desert areas.
