French Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu affirmed that his country seeks to avoid escalation on the southern Lebanese border.
The French minister's statements come in light of the continued bombardment carried out by the Israeli occupation on towns and villages in southern Lebanon, in conjunction with its ongoing brutal aggression against Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Lecornu said that the real challenge for them is to ensure that this escalation, which may seem inevitable, does not happen and does not intervene.
The French Minister of the Armed Forces stressed that his country's priority lies in determining how the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1701 can be implemented again, and how to resume patrols and return to the mode of monitoring and containing the conflict so that one side does not fire on the other side of the border and that the other side of the border does not retaliate with the risk of escalation.
The Israeli occupation escalated the intensity of air and artillery bombardment on southern Lebanon, resulting in deaths and injuries among civilians, and forced hundreds of families to flee their homes.
