Rashid Awajan KA al-Khayarin-owned Toromona won the Khor Al Adaid Cup at the Al Rayyan Racecourse on Thursday.
Under jockey Tomas Lukasek, the six-year-old bay gelding won the 2800m race for the Thoroughbreds (Gr3 QA) for four-year-old+ in an eye-catching fashion.
It was another exciting head-to-head finish in the evening with the winner holding off the powerful opposition of Hamaki by just a short head at the line, completing a double in the card for trainer Hamad al-Jehani.
Al-Jehani was in the winners’ enclosure earlier when Jockey Arnaud De Lepine guided Ahmed Hassan al-Malki al-Jehani’s Charlie Bu Thaila to win the 1600m race for the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate for four-six-year-olds – the meeting opener.
In the penultimate race, a 2000m contest for the Thoroughbred Pearl for fillies and mares – the Khalifa bin Sheail KHJ al-Kuwari-owned and Zuhair Mohsen-trained Chealamy with Faleh Bughanaim in the saddle after a thrilling blanket finish, which saw the winner land the spoils by a head and a neck ahead of Kimnkate and Marinara respectively.
The Silver Sword Trial – Purebred Arabians for four-year-olds was won by Shagraan, who claimed victory by almost two lengths.
The Saeed Mohammed Shafi al-Shafi owned-and-trained bay colt was ridden by Jefferson Smith in 1,850m race.
HE Meshaal bin Ali al-Attiyah, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Bosnia and Herzegovina, crowned the winners.
