The Athbah Cup Day was wrapped up with the feature event, the 1,400m Purebred Arabian Premium Maiden, and it was the Al Shaqab Racing-bred & owned, and Jean de Mieulle-trained Al Zwair who took top honours under jockey Olivier d’Andigne, clearing three lengths clear of the field at the line and completing a double on the day for the winning owner, trainer and jockey at the Al Uqda Racecourse on Saturday.
The winning trio was in the winners’ enclosure earlier in the day also when Bint Alarab won the 2,100m race for Purebred Arabian Handicap (55-75) for four-year-old+.
Khalifa bin Sheail K H J al-Kuwari’s Khalil Du Croate came second, while Sheikh Ahmad bin Mohamed F N al-Thani’s Al Kazim finished third. In the penultimate race, Khalifa bin Mohamed bin Khalifa Abdullah al-Attiyah’s Al Mundher won the 1,200m contest for Thoroughbred Handicap (70-90) for three-year-old+..
