The Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC) of the Ministry of Sports and Youth held an awareness lecture about sustainable development under the theme of 'better community with sustainable thinking'.
The event brought together a large number of the centre's female affiliates within a series of awareness and environmental lectures.
Delivered by Maha Freja, the lecture introduced the process of sustainable development and its role in improving the living conditions of individuals, upgrading, and managing production techniques to avoid depletion of natural resources.
Freja indicated that Qatar has adopted the sustainable development as a core pillar within its national strategy 2030 and thereafter embarked on carrying out numerous national projects that include all forms of infrastructure and development, whether agricultural, industrial, or mineral with a great emphasis on conserving environment for the next generations.
The launch of smart cities projects such as Lusail and Msheireb Downtown Doha is intended to combine eco-friendly technologies and urban planning in pursuit of achieving the highest environmental standards, Freja pointed out.
She added that protection of biodiversity is among the top priorities of sustainable development adopted by Qatar, as the state has launched multiple programmes that aim to protect the environment, in addition to diversifying and conserving its resources to achieve the sustainable development, primarily the protection of endangered plant species, Qatari mainland rehabilitation, the endangered hawksbill sea turtle protection projects, establishment of Al-Reem Biosphere Reserve within the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) of Unesco, Whale shark protection and the dugong protection project, as well as species of large, long-lived marine mammal that lives off the coast of Qatar.
