The Japanese national football team delegation arrived Friday in Doha to participate in the Asian Cup Qatar 2023, held from January 12 to February 10, 2024.
The four-time champions will commence its training sessions today and is scheduled to play a friendly match against Jordan on January 9.
Japan is placed in Group D alongside Indonesia, Iraq, and Vietnam. The team has secured victories in its last nine matches, including a notable 4-1 win against Germany in a friendly match on September 9 last year, and a 4-2 victory against Turkiye in the Kirin Cup. Additionally, they achieved a decisive 5-0 win against Thailand last week.
The Japanese national team aspires to clinch the title for the fifth time, setting a record, considering they are currently one title ahead of Saudi Arabia and Iran.
