The Farmers’ Market of the Ministry of Municipality at Expo 2023 Doha has gone live, with 26 local farms featuring various agricultural products.
The ministry set up the Farmers’ Market as part of efforts to support local farmers and introduce Qatari agricultural products to the expo visitors.
Agricultural Affairs Department director Yousef al-Khulaifi told the local Arabic daily Arrayah that the market will sell products three days a week – Thursday, Friday and Saturday – until the end of expo.
The ministry is also taking part in the exhibition through the Local Dates Exhibition, where local varieties of the dates are exhibited and sold.
“The department will introduce other activities with the Farmers' Market, where flowers, canaries, honey and other seasonal festivals will be held from next week onwards,” al-Khulaifi said. “The ministry is supporting the local farmers through various initiatives and gives them spaces to sell the products. These include farm yards across the country and other business outlets.”
He said that Expo 2023 Doha is a big opportunity for farmers to introduce their products, their quality and their growth to the public, adding that visitors can buy local fresh products at reasonable prices.
Apart from vegetables, the stalls at the Farmers’ Market feature fruits, including figs and strawberries.
