The Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre (Fanar) continues to hold several programmes for the communities in Qatar. Run by the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, Fanar recently launched a programme to teach Arabic to non-native speakers.
According to a statement from Awqaf, 19 Russian students were enrolled to learn Arabic from the Arabic Language Institute with Fanar’s Islamic Culture Department.
This intensive programme for teaching the Arabic language lasts for one month and it hosts the learners in co-ordination with the Fatwa Department of the Stavropol Region. The learners are from the autonomous republics of Chechnya, Ingushetia, Circassians, Karachay Circassians, and Kabardin-Balkaria and Stavropol.
Earlier this week, Fanar officials received the students at Hamad International Airport (HIA). They then visited Fanar’s headquarters, where they were given a test to determine their level of Arabic proficiency.
This programme comes within the framework of Fanar’s interest, represented by the Department of Islamic Culture, in the Arabic language and teaching it to non-Arabic speakers. Also, the programme is implemented as part of Fanar’s keenness to teach and disseminate Arabic.
The Department of Islamic Culture held an entertaining and educational programme for the Oromo speakers from the Ethiopian Muslim community. The programme was attended by 95 members. The participants met with the preachers and listened to guidance speeches from them. It included sports activities and educational advice from the preachers. The attendees praised the programme and thanked the centre. The step towards the Ethiopian community specifically.
