Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the United States to take measures to advance stable and sustainable development of relations between the two countries.

In a congratulatory message sent to US President Joe Biden to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Xi stressed the necessity of working to implement the important common understandings and outcomes reached by the two heads of state.

According to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Xi said, in a statement, that both countries have "weathered the storms and moved forward in general" which has contributed to world peace and stability.

Xi called China and US forming ties "a major event" in the history of bilateral relations and in international relations.

The Chinese and American presidents held a summit in California last November, that was described as "constructive and fruitful", which relaunched dialogue between the two rival countries, but brought to light the differences between them, especially regarding Taiwan. (QNA)
