Qatar Charity has successfully performed corneal transplant operations for three displaced Syrians. The operations were conducted in a hospital in northern Syria. Qatar Charity covered the expenses of the operations, treatment trip, and full follow-up until their sight is restored.
Ahmed Abdo, who was displaced from the Aleppo countryside to the Afrin region, was suffering from complete loss of sight. Despite his condition, difficult financial circumstances remained an obstacle until Qatar Charity sponsored his corneal transplant for his left eye.
Following the success of the operation, Ahmed said that after five years he is now able to carry out daily tasks on his own. He expressed his gratitude to the good people in Qatar who sponsored this charitable work.
He said, “For the first time, I can see my children and recognise their faces. It is a different and indescribable feeling. May God reward all the Qatari people.”
Hamida al-Mohamed from the city of Afrin was suffering from a corneal infection that damaged her cornea for more than 15 years. Qatar Charity provided her with the necessary support and performed the surgery successfully.
The restoration of al-Mohamed’s sight gave her the ability to live a normal life. She expressed great happiness after the success of the operation and for being able to take care of herself, her family, and the education of her children.
Sanaa al-Hussein from the Hama countryside was suffering from eye pain that led to the loss of sight in one eye five years ago. Thanks to the success of the surgery, al-Hussein thanked Qatar Charity, the medical team, and the people in Qatar.
Engineer Youssef bin Ahmed al-Hammadi, general supervisor of Qatar Charity’s office in Turkey, said: “The project aims to support the most vulnerable groups in the displaced community inside Syria. This is an important project in restoring hope and life to patients and how surgical operations can be a reason to stimulate their development and better engage them in society.”
