The Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC) has launched the fourth cycle of the December Al-Adaam Initiative.
According to an official statement, it is a national scientific initiative launched by the centre annually throughout December, with each year bearing a different theme and slogan that reflects the most important scientific research and studies at Qatar University (QU).
This year, the initiative highlighted scientific research related to the latest technologies to serve the environment and maintain the environmental sustainability of Qatar.
These projects were presented through a set of short films that were published on all social networking sites.
The centre’s team prepared for the initiative by co-ordinating with colleges, departments, and research centres at the QU to submit their research proposals to be shown in the initiative’s films.
The centre was also keen to involve QU students from various colleges and research centres to present their scientific research.
Students from various colleges and centres, including the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, the QUYSC, the Biomedical Sciences Centre, the Environmental Sciences Centre, and the Agricultural Research Station, took part.
In addition, the QUYSC aims to diversify the topics offered to include innovative research on several topics related to environmental problems.
The initiative's films covered important topics revolving around the latest methods and technological applications and their role in protecting and developing the Qatari environment.
The most prominent topics were the development od solar cells using artificial intelligence (AI), inventing advanced air purification devices, and monitoring marine waste based on the use of technology.
Other research on the latest technologies for monitoring vibrational energy and biodiversity in Qatar was presented, as well as technological monitoring of the composting process and vertical farming technology.
The participating students expressed admiration for the initiative.
Shahad al-Abdullah of the College of Engineering said the initiative is a valuable opportunity for the students to present the projects that we participated in implementing and disseminating them to the community.
“It contributes effectively to enhancing scientific awareness and encouraging students to participate in research, which enhances the development of the youth’s intellectual skills and abilities,” he said.
QUYSC director Prof Noora Jabor al-Thani noted that technology plays a vital role in protecting and preserving the environment by providing sustainable and effective technological solutions to various environmental problems.
“Therefore, in this year’s initiative, we were keen to provide the most prominent of these solutions that are provided by the QU to serve environmental sustainability,” she said.
“We aim every year to involve QU students from various disciplines in this initiative to highlight the role of the QU in developing and advancing scientific research and studies in a manner consistent with achieving the goals and objectives of the university and supporting the research priorities of Qatar as well as the Qatar National Vision 2030,” Prof Noora Jabor said.
