Papua New Guinea is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area extending along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, characterized by high activity of earthquakes and volcanoes. This region includes 90% of the world's active volcanoes. In February 2018, it witnessed a devastating earthquake that killed at least 100 people and caused landslides that buried dozens of villages.
