Jacob Mubarak al-Alawi created a new world record in the Polaris Unlimited Category during the second round of the Sealine Sand Drag Competition last week.
At the Qatar Racing Club (QRC)’s track on the sandy shores of Sealine, Jacob created a new world record timing by completing the track in 3.324s and emerged as the winner. Jacob bettered the world record set by Zaid Sultan al-Alawi (3.376s) earlier in the round, in his second attempt. For the second consecutive week, the competitions continued under the gracious sponsorship of HE Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad al-Thani, the club’s chairman. The round witnessed a record-breaking number of participants, exceeding 130 racers, including champions from Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Rashid al-Darwish retained his title for the second consecutive round in Polaris Kids category, Hmoud al-Sulaiti secured the second position and Yusuf Aga took the third place. Walid al-Sharshani won the motocross title of the round, ahead of the champions of the previous round Jassem Rahimbore while Abdul Rahman al-Nasr came third.
In the ATV categories, the stock class saw a new champion in Nawaf al-Sharaha. Abdulaziz al-Haddad repeated his previous week’s performance to claim the second position. Khaled Karam came third. In the modified category, Mohamed al-Mazmi recorded the best time, winning the second round and leaving the second position for racer Nasser al-Ansari and the third for the runner-up of the previous round Mishaal al-Fahad.
As for the open category, which entered the competition in this round, Abdullah Hamza al-Mazmi claimed the title defeating Mishaal al-Fahad and Mashari al-Turki, who secured the second and third spots, respectively.
Cars with 6-cylinder engines, totalling three categories, saw all the champions from the previous round retain their titles in this round. In the stock category, Mohamed Hakmi recorded the best time, while Khalid Yaseer took the second place and the third position went to the runner-up of the previous round, Ali Hassan al-Mutawaa. Similarly, the Nitrous category saw the second victory for Mohamed al-Sharshani, achieving his second title in the championship, surpassing Khalifa al-Meer, who was also the runner-up in the previous round. Fareed Luqman climbed to the third spot on the podium in this round.
The Turbo category witnessed the second victory for Walid al-Dughaysham, while Abdulrahman al-Assaf took second place, and Bandar al-Mnakhus repeated his performance from the previous round by securing the third position.
Moving on to the categories with 8-cylinder engines, the stock category’s podium was identical to the first round, with Mahmoud Diab taking the first position. Walid Salem came second and Khaled Yaseer finished third. Walid Salem returned to the top of the podium, but this time in the modified category, repeating his success from the previous round. He outperformed Issa al-Mannai, while Khalifa Ibrahim claimed the third position.
In the buggy competitions, Abdullah al-Sulaiti came first, while Mohamed al-Sulaiti and Saad al-Dosari second and third respectively. In the Buggy Funco category Mhanna al-Nuaimi emerged winner. Mohamed al-Saliti came second and Abdullah al-Saliti finished third.
The Hilux category witnessed Mohamed al-Hamdani securing the first position, followed by Abdullah al-Mujahid in second place, and Abdulaziz al-Anzi in third. The third round of the event will be held in February 2024.
