After drawing crowds and showcasing Qatar's proud heritage through enthralling events, the activities of Darb Al Saai came to an end Saturday at Umm Salal Mohamed. The activities that lasted for two weeks witnessed huge public participation while hosting a number of cultural and artistic activities.
Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Darb Al Saai features various cultural, artistic and literary events with a special focus on the national identity and heritage.
Among the attractions was the life size model of a traditional dhow on wheels, touring the main arena, as sailors sang folk songs related to the local marine heritage. Also, Darb Al Saai featured several learning activities, games and awareness programmes for adults and kids. The activities resonated with Qatari pride and attachment towards its heritage, patriotism and love of the country.
Spread across around 150,000 sqm, Darb Al Saai hosted activities by Theatre Affairs Centre, the Music Affairs Centre, the Visual Arts Centre, Qatar Poetry Centre, Qatar Media Centre, Qatar Authors Forum and Qatar Photography Centre. All of the programmes enriched the festive mood at Darb Al Saai.
The traditional market featured Qatari cuisine, art, crafts and clothes and the eateries lent the visitors the opportunity to savour the delicious Qatari and Arabic sweets and dishes along with coffee and tea. Qatari House (Al Bayt Al Qatari) offered the young generations a historical overview of the old heritage of the country by envisaging the lives of forefathers.
There was an exclusive theatre at Darb Al Saai where the history of Qatar’s cultural journey was visualised. Puppet shows and a museum that featured photos of old Qatari plays and theatre activities also drew the crowd. The exhibition Past Nostalgia focused on the old days of Qatari life. The exhibition featured artworks and paintings by Qataris and expatriate artists. Also, there was another exhibition that highlighted the rich flora of Qatar. Darb Al Saai also hosted workshops on bird photography, colouring, painting, traditional wool weaving techniques and fabrics.
