Charlie Fellowes-trained Chealamy won the Qatar Oaks for Thoroughbreds in style on Wednesday at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club. On her Qatar debut, the three year-old filly in the silks of Khalifa bin Sheail KH J al-Kuwari, sprouted her wings in the final strides to win 2000m race for the three-year-old fillies and completed a double for the owner and jockey Jim Crowley.
Earlier in the 16th Al Rayyan Meeting day, Alban de Mieulle made it another one-two for Wathnan Racing on the card in the Local Thoroughbred Oaks for three-year-old fillies as Muataz held off the challenge of her stablemate to land the spoils and chalk up a fourth winner for the owner and the trainer and a second for jockey Mickael Barzalona on the day.
Jockey Maxime Guyon also completed a fine double on the day as he partnered Gorat Aeen, carrying the colours of HE Sheikha Reem bint Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani, to win the Purebred Arabian Oaks. The Francois Rohaut-trained filly ran on strongly to score impressively on Qatar debut.
Meanwhile, Alban de Mieulle saddled the one-two, both owned by Wathnan Racing, in the Local Purebred Arabian Oaks and it was Nesrine who came out on top, recording her second straight win and giving the owner and the trainer a third winner in the card. Soufiane Saadi doubled up as he was the man onboard.
The Khalifa bin Sheail KH J al-Kuwari-owned Tulaitila marked her Qatar debut with a valuable victory, landing the Purebred Arabian Oaks for trainer Thomas Fourcy with Jim Crowley in the saddle. Hamad bin Abdulrahman al-Attiya, Vice-Chairman of QREC and Chairman of the Asian Equestrian Federation, crowned the winners.
MHK al-Attiyah saddled the first three home in an impressive finish to the Local Purebred Arabian Oaks and all of them carried the colours of owner and breeder Al Jeryan Stud. It was AJS Agadir who landed the spoils, getting off the mark on third career start, in the hands of jockey Oisin Murphy.
