A group of enthusiasts from Qatar Natural History Group (QNHG) gathered in the outskirts of Doha on Thursday night, away from light pollution to observe a meteor shower. The group observed around more than 200 meteors in a matter of hours.
The moonless night sky provided an enriching observation of the shooting stars from Qatar, a QNHG statement said. Every year in December, Earth passes through the dust orbit of the asteroid 3200 Phaethon. This year was special for Qatar as the Earth passed through the maximum intensity of the shower at around 10:30pm local time on Thursday. The picture was taken by Omer bin Abdul Aziz, an amateur astronomer working in Doha.
