Qatar participated in the high-level event for family protection in Geneva, held on the sidelines of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Representing Qatar at the meeting was HE the Minister of Social Development and Family Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad.
HE al-Misnad emphasised the necessity of protecting the family system amidst the intellectual transformations of the modern world.
She pointed out that this event comes at a time when the institution of the family is facing unprecedented attacks aimed at diminishing its role in society, these being destructive trends instigated by some ideologies opposing the family.
HE al-Misnad highlighted the need to intensify international efforts aimed at protecting families and enhancing collaborative mechanisms.
She noted that Qatar launched a global commitment to protect the family system from the severe societal, ideological, and intellectual changes seeking to weaken and alter its natural structure. This commitment was joined by 29 countries worldwide.
The declaration covered various provisions focusing on protecting families living in war and conflict zones, including those enduring natural disasters, displacement, and seeking refuge, as these groups are increasingly exposed to various human rights violations and marginalisation.
Regarding the issue of family and cyber security, HE al-Misnad stressed the necessity of ensuring children's access to digital benefits while providing complete protection to them, ensuring maximum benefit from digital software and tools without exposing them to violations affecting their safety and security.
She highlighted the importance of balancing the advantages and disadvantages of the internet and adopting a multidimensional approach that prioritizes the child's best interest in policies and strategies related to information technology.
She reaffirmed Qatar's firm stance in supporting and protecting the family according to agreed-upon traditional definitions, consisting of 'father, mother, and children.' She emphasised the necessity of accelerating efforts to protect families living under occupation and armed conflict.
It's worth noting that HE the Minister participated, on the sidelines of the high-level event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in a side event called Youth Dialogue. The event aimed to discuss youth rights and elevate their status across various economic and social developmental fields.
