Qatari racing legend Nasser al-Attiyah and his French co-driver Mathieu Baumel pose with their World Rally-Raid trophies during the FIA Award Ceremony in Baku, Azerbaijan, yesterday. Al-Attiyah won the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas after a gap of 15 years.
The reigning Dakar Rally champion also received his record 19th FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) title trophy during the ceremony. This time, al-Attiyah shared the MERC title with Oman’s Abdullah al-Rawahi after they tied for points. The glittering FIA ceremony was dedicated for single-seater, circuit sport and road sport categories as drivers and co-drivers from around the world were recognised for their standout achievements during the last 12 months.
