Qatar has welcomed the Danish parliament's adoption of a law prohibiting the inappropriate treatment of religious texts, expressing its hope that this legislation will constitute a deterrent to reduce hate speech against religions, especially when it comes to Islamophobia.
In a statement Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Qatar's appreciation for the parliament's response to calls to prevent the burning of the Holy Qur'an, and at the same time looks forward to similar legislation from the parliaments of countries that witnessed the burning of copies of the Holy Qur'an, which would contribute to stopping crimes that fuel hatred and incite terrorism. Violence threatens peaceful coexistence among peoples.
The ministry renewed Qatar's support for the values of tolerance and its keenness to establish the principles of international peace and security through dialogue and understanding.
