The Qatar Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), represented by the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), has launched the ‘Audit Handbook for Energy Practitioners’. In co-operation with the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (Gord), the handbook was launched at a function at Kahrama Awareness Park theatre.
Gord founding chairman Dr Yousef al-Horr and Kahramaa’s Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department manager engineer Rashid Hussein al-Rahimi were present. Developed as part of a joint initiative between Gord and Tarsheed, the handbook is expected to play a significant role in supporting Qatar's energy transition objectives in line with Qatar National Environment and Climate Change Strategy and Qatar National Climate Change Action Plan. It serves as a practical guide for energy practitioners involved in auditing both commercial and residential buildings.
Emphasising a pragmatic approach based on real-world experience, the handbook aims to catalyse sustainable development efforts in Qatar's energy landscape. Beyond its role as a technical manual, the handbook is designed as an educational guide that fosters critical thinking, adaptability, and innovation among energy professionals. It provides practitioners with the necessary tools and knowledge to assess energy consumption and identify potential savings. Also, it contributes to a more sustainable future.
“As a hydrocarbon-rich nation, Qatar is well aware of the need to diversify its energy sources and reduce its energy footprint. The handbook is a significant step towards achieving this goal.” Highlighting the role of Tarsheed,” al-Horr said. “We, at Gord, are dedicated to innovating climate-resilient solutions as part of our ongoing commitment to promote sustainability. That said, the impact and reach of our efforts would be limited without the valuable support of forward-thinking entities such as Kahramaa’s Tarsheed. We are honoured to collaborate with Tarsheed in launching this important resource for energy professionals," he added.
“The objective of Tarsheed is to create a sustainable culture and lifestyle among its residents by promoting optimal use of energy and water. In addition, it regulates the specifications of electric devices and water tools towards energy efficiency in the country besides applying Tarsheed law no. 20 for the year 2015 to forbid the waste of electricity and water in Qatar,” al-Rahimi said.
