Qatar's relationship is with the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause, HE the Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani stated Sunday in an interview with CBS News.
"Our support for the Palestinian people has been ongoing for decades. And this is what Qatar stood for. Whoever is governing the Palestinians is their choice and I believe that the focus right now is to end this war, how to ensure that this is not repeated and the only way for that is to resolve it peacefully, to have a political solution and provide the Palestinian people with a political horizon for a state. Thereafter who will govern Gaza and the West Bank should be one unit, one country under one leadership that will be chosen by the Palestinian people," he explained.
When asked about the progress of the negotiations to release more hostages, HE Sheikh Mohamed said: "The President of the US is in constant contact with His Highness the Amir and I have been in constant communication with our colleagues in The White House, CIA and the State Department as well.
"This is a relation that is based on trust and mutual interest of both countries. This office (Hamas political office in Qatar) was established in coordination with the US for communication with Hamas and it has always been useful not only for the US, but also for Israel and the stability of the region... right now we are in the middle of the negotiation. We will always keep the communication open with everyone.
"So far things have been moving in the right direction. We've been working very closely with the US government, with the White House, and we are hoping that we will see the release happening shortly.
"We are working on daily basis and making sure that every day we have the list of the next day. We are hopeful to have confirmation for proof of life and hopefully the release at the end of the agreement. Things are happening on a daily basis."
About Qatar's relations with the US, HE Sheikh Mohamed said: "Our relation with US is a very solid relationship and alliance that’s been established throughout the decades, we've been working together very closely in ensuring peace and stability in the region. On several occasions, Qatar has been always looking up to this partnership and if you recall Afghanistan and currently, right now we have been working very closely with The White House, the CIA and the State Department to ensure that this deal is happening."
