The Local Organising Committee of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 is to allocate proceeds from ticket sales to support relief efforts for the Palestinian people, who are facing a critical crisis requiring various forms of necessary support.
HE the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani emphasised the importance of solidarity with the Palestinian people and providing support and assistance to them.
He said that in the current circumstances and the difficult situation faced by the Palestinian brothers, the committee has decided to allocate the proceeds to support relief efforts, in collaboration with the relevant partners.
He pointed out that the initiative aims to underscore the significant role football plays in social responsibility, contributing actively beyond the football field. He added that the initiative reflects the belief in the power of football and its impact on communities, especially during crises when the need for assistance intensifies.
The proceeds will be dedicated to providing various essential needs, including food and medical supplies, in collaboration with relevant authorities.
Qatar is preparing to host the AFC Asian Cup Qatar for the third time, having previously organised it in 1988 and 2011. Twenty-four teams from the best in Asia are set to compete for the championship, with 51 matches taking place across nine stadiums from Jan 12 to Feb 10, 2024.
