The Philippine School Doha’s (PSD) Parent–Teacher Association (PTA) kicked off its ‘Sports Summit 2023-2024’ recently, bringing together basketball, volleyball, bowling and badminton players and enthusiasts in a thrilling showcase of passion and sportsmanship.
A colourful parade of school and PTA officers, highlighted by the entrance of players, marked the start of the opening ceremony, in addition to cultural performances. From traditional dances to modern interpretations, the performances enthralled the audience and added an extra layer of excitement to the event.
“The Sportsfest is not just about competition; it’s about fostering a sense of community and teamwork. We believe that when parents, teachers and school staff come together, incredible things happen. This year, we aim to make the Sportsfest a testament to our collective strength and spirit,” PTA-PSD-Board of Directors president Ismael Benavidez Jr said in a press statement,
The vice principal of the Preschool Department, host of the 31st Foundation Celebrations of the school, Dr Nida H Garcia, stressed the importance of sports in education. He said sports teach everyone valuable life skills: teamwork, discipline, perseverance and the ability to handle both victory and defeat gracefully.
According to the organisers, the event witnessed school staff, teachers and parents cheering on their teams, displaying unwavering support and sportsmanship.
