Since the start of the winter camping season on November 1, a total of 13 camps have been removed for violating the terms and conditions set forth by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
Speaking to local Arabic daily Arrayah, Fawwaz al-Shemari, assistant director of the Wildlife Protection Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and head of the winter camping team, pointed out that the camps were removed because their original owners sub-leased these to others.
The violation was spotted in co-operation with the Environment Security and the Internal Security Forces (Lekhwiya). He further stressed that the ministry will continue its intensive efforts to monitor the compliance of campers with the standard camping terms and conditions.
Al-Shermari noted that the inspectors concerned monitor the advertisements posted on social media to lease out these camps by their owners and acted immediately by conducting an investigation and when the violation is confirmed the licence was withdrawn. The tents and cabins and other camping gear will be confiscated without any prior notice.
The official stressed that the majority of campers have been complying with the related rules and regulations and were abiding by the time schedule for camping.
