Al Sadd moved to top of the Expo Stars League after a 2-0 win over Muaither, while Al Gharafa are in second place only due to goal difference after they came from two goals down to defeat Al Rayyan 4-3 on Saturday. In another match, Al Duhail survived late scare from Al Shamal to win 2-0. Yousef Aymen and Alomez Ali scored for the defending champions, while Ricardo Gomes struck for the hosts. Duhail are in fourth place with 13 points.
At the Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium, Akram Afif (42nd minute, penalty) and substitute Hashem Ali (90+4 minute) scored the goals for Al Sadd.
Earlier, Yacine Brahimi scored a brace (44th minute penalty and 61st minute), while Yohan Boli (50th minute) and Farid Boulaya (90+5 minute) were also on target for Al Gharafa at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium. Al Rayyan’s goals were scored by Rodrigo Moreno (ninth minute), Achraf Bencharki (20th minute) and Rodrigo Tabata (86th minute).
With the result, Al Rayyan missed out on a chance to take outright lead at the top and are now third with 15 points.
