Ahmed Elbourdainy of Team Doha Cycling won the men’s open category (Group A) race of the Al Thakira Road Race held on Saturday. Former Qatar team rider Elbourdainy completed the 96.3km race in an impressive 2:20m with an average speed of 41.21kph. Team Aladam Cycling’s Iranian rider Abdullah Motreq and Kuwaiti rider Mansour Alsubaiei finished second and third respectively. In the men’s amateur (Group B) category, which saw over 120 riders competing, Qatari rider Saoud Alkhalaqi of Team Aladam Cycling won the race in a thrilling bunch sprint. Filipino riders Christian dela Cruz and Gerald Mendoza finished second and third respectively. Other notable winners in various categories included Marwan Elsaid (Junior Category), Kemuel Paz (Masters Category) and Elmer Oropieza (Men Veterans Category). The Women’s category (Group C) was clinched by Filipina rider Chelsea Sophia. Qatari rider Lolwa Almarri and Filipina rider Miriam Castro came second and third. Hafiz Sali of the Qatar National Cadet Team won the 15-16 category title, while Aria Rayyan Pesurnay secured victory in the 13-14 category.
