Several UN-affiliated agencies have issued urgent appeals for the facilitation of aid delivery to the Gaza Strip without obstacles, as the basic services in the Strip continue to collapse due to shortages, emphasizing that Palestinians there need lot of support amidst the ongoing Israeli aggression that has persisted since Oct. 7.
The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that it will be forced to stop working across the Gaza Strip on Wednesday unless there are fuel deliveries to the territory.
"If we do not get fuel urgently, we will be forced to halt our operations in the Gaza Strip," UNRWA says on X.
UNRWA Director of Communications Juliette Touma said "Time is running out. We urgently need fuel."
Spokesperson for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Jeremy Laurence said that the aid which resumed from Egypt over the weekend is a mere drop in the ocean of what is needed.
UNRWA spokeswoman Tamara Alrifai "Fuel is extremely urgent because without fuel, the trucks themselves cannot move," adding "Without fuel, the generators cannot produce electricity for hospitals, for bakeries and for the water desalination plant."
Deputy Director of Emergencies at World Food Programme (WFP) Brian Lander said that people in Gaza are in desperate need of water, food and all the primary needs.
The World Health Organization (WHO) explained that although medicines and medical supplies were delivered to three hospitals in southern Gaza, there is still an urgent need to deliver them to the northern Gaza Strip.
"We still have not been able to reach the hospitals in the north with the medical supplies or the desperately needed fuel," Regional Emergency Director for WHO's Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean Rick Brennan said.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced Tuesday that the total collapse of the health system in hospitals in the Gaza Strip as a result of the continuous Israeli siege and the aggression against the Strip since Oct. 7.
