The State of Qatar reaffirmed its support for all the efforts made by the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization in clarifying the provisions of international law and the Charter, and supporting its reform process.
This came in the statement of the State of Qatar made by Rashid Ali Al Marri, member of the State of Qatar's delegation to the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, before the Sixth Committee meeting on the Report of the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization, at the UN headquarters in New York.
Al Marri stated that the State of Qatar attaches special importance to settling international disputes by peaceful means, stemming from on its policy based on respect for the rules of international law, which is a fundamental pillar of the United Nations Charter and among its most important purposes.
The State of Qatar has gained the trust and praise of the international community through the prominent role played by the Qatari diplomacy in the field of mediation in resolving disputes through peaceful means and dialogue, Al Marri pointed out; adding that Qatar continues its role as a mediator in many crises in order to achieve peace, security and stability at the regional and international levels.
The path to resolving conflicts peacefully is long and arduous, but less costly than wars. Qatar's commitment to continuing its efforts to facilitate and create peace is principled and is at the core of its foreign policy, Al Marri pointed out.
The State of Qatar calls for emulating the purposes of the Charter in reaching the required understandings, in order to achieve the collective interests of peoples and societies, Al Marri said.
He noted that reaching consensus on the elements of the Committees annual report at its session held this year requires more efforts from member states to bring viewpoints closer together in the issues that the Committee will consider in its upcoming sessions.
The purposes of the UN Charter calls for developing friendly relations among nations, international cooperate in solving international economic, social, cultural and humanitarian problems, and promoting respect for human rights, he added.
Al Marri pointed to the important role of the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies in Doha, which seeks through its activities and critical extrapolation of the nature of conflict, its causes and solution methodologies, and identifying the adaptation mechanism and forms of community resilience during wars, to understand conflict resolution and humanitarian work, and contribute to opening horizons for dialogue by organizing conferences and lectures, providing training opportunities for students of conflict management departments, and building capabilities through specialized workshops.
