As a contribution to supporting the water and sanitation sector in Albania, Qatar Charity (QC) signed two agreements to dig 110 wells at a cost exceeding QR2mn, benefiting more than 20,000 people from the towns of Kamza and Vora.
QC also laid the foundation stone for a mosque at a cost of QR1.5mn, a statement said yesterday.
The signing ceremony was attended by Qatar embassy in Albania charge d'affaires Abdulaziz al-Sahli, QC's Programmes and International Development Department director Abdulaziz Hajji, Kamza Municipality mayor Raqib Sola, and Vora Municipality mayor Balarim Shira.
Al-Sahli said: “The Qatari and Albanian peoples have distinguished relations, and Qatar attaches great importance to strengthening co-operation with Albania.”
Hajji said: “These projects are from the people of Qatar to their brothers in Albania, and Qatar Charity always extends a helping hand to our brothers in Albania, especially in times of crisis.”
The Kamza mayor thanked QC for carrying out the projects with the highest quality standards and for its interest in the region.
The Vora mayor said the agreement will contribute to alleviating the problems of water outages and expressed his desire for new co-operations with QC.
In conjunction with the signing of the agreement, the Mufti of Shkodra Governorate, Sheikh Muhammad Sutari, laid the foundation stone for the Tobhana Neighborhood Mosque, which would benefit 5,000 people.
The Mufti visited many projects implemented by QC in the Zalpstar area of the municipality of Tirana and spoke with residents to determine the importance of these projects for them. He also visited Al-Fajr School, affiliated with QC, where 400 students’ study and which is equipped with the latest technical equipment.
QC, since opening its office in the Albanian capital, Tirana, in 1994, has worked in several fields, including social care, where it sponsors 6,000 orphans, people with special needs, children of poor families, and students, providing them with monthly sponsorship and seasonal and annual assistance.
In the field of education, QC has a model school in which more than 400 students, from primary to secondary levels study. It also has a cultural training centre that provides distinguished services in the field of computer training and teaches different languages to more than 1,500 students, in addition to its contribution to building schools and hospitals and digging wells.
