South African rider Michael Anderson pipped Championship leader Mohamed al-Balooshi of the UAE by a fraction of a second to win the fifth round of the Qatar Off Road Championship at the Sealine Region on Saturday. Anderson completed 19 laps in the 6.1 kilometre track in one hour, 20 minutes and 19.804 secs. Al-Balooshi, the defending champion, finished just 0.083 secs behind in second place. Al-Balooshi’s brother Sultan finished third after completing the same number of laps but he was 1:59.365 secs behind the winner. South African Jaco Anderson topped the veterans’ podium. UAE’s Mansoor al-Suwaidi won Class 2, while his compatriots Abdulaziz Ahli and Abdullah Alfalasi finished second and third respectively in the same class. The sixth round of the eight-leg series, organised by the Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation, takes place on October 27-28.
