The Shura Council participated Saturday in the first plenary session of the fourth session of the third legislative term of the Arab Parliament at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo. HE Sheikha bint Yousef al-Jufairi, HE Issa bin Ahmed al-Nasr, HE Salem bin Rashid al-Muraikhi, and HE Hamad bin Abdulla al- Mulla represented the Shura Council as members of the council and the Arab Parliament.
The session discussed the entire Arab developments and issues, developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, the recent aggression on Gaza and the brotherly Palestinian people, in addition to discussing a range of topics related to reinforcing the joint Arab action.
During the session, the Arab Parliament condemned the recent aggression on Gaza and the brotherly Palestinian people, calling on the international community to swiftly act and put an end to the Israeli practices that violate international law and amount to genocide and war crimes.
In this framework, HE al-Nasr pointed out, during his remarks, that the brotherly Palestinian people have been suffering for 74 years from a wanton occupation and usurpation of their lands, recalling that the conventions and conferences, neither put an end to the killings of Palestinians, nor the violations of their holy places.
He affirmed that what is happening in the Gaza Strip is a genocide being perpetrated against Muslim people in every sense of the word, recalling the suffering of the brothers in Palestine from being off-grid with the shortage of food and medicines. He wondered about the role of international and human rights organisations, as well as the European Parliament in what is happening for brothers in Gaza, calling for supporting the Palestinian people and standing with them in this critical time.
For his part, HE al-Mulla condemned the war crimes and genocide being perpetrated by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip and murdering the children and women, as well as demolishing homes and facilities, recalling Qatar's firm position on the Palestinian cause.
Members of the Arab Parliament discussed, during the session, the outcomes of the meetings of the four permanent committees, particularly with respect to the fifth annual draft report on the situation of human rights in the Arab world for the year 2022, draft road map to combat child labour in the Arab region by 2026, draft vision of the Arab Parliament to address the negative consequences of natural disasters on human rights in the Arab world, as well as the proposal of the accession of Arab states to the Permanent Arab Court for Arbitration.
The members of the Arab Parliament also discussed the action plan of the parliament's social, educational, cultural, women, and youth affairs committee for the fourth session of the third legislative term submitted by HE Sheikha al-Jufairi with respect to scrutinizing the problems of the surge in divorce cases and reasons behind the reluctance of young people to approach marriage, as well as the rise of unemployment rates in Arab communities and methods of addressing them.
In addition, the session discussed the report of the social situation in the Arab world in 2022, a draft Arab indicative law on promoting investment in renewable and clean energy in the Arab world, as well as the Palestine committee report that included recommendations and perspectives of the committee pertaining to the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
