The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) felicitated three Qataris for their contribution in the fields of language, literature and authentic art as part of its continuing efforts to honour Qatari talents and highlight their valuable, pioneering and influential experiences in the cultural scene inside and outside Qatar.
Dr Fatima al-Suwaidi, professor of literature and criticism at Qatar University, and director of Qatar University publishing house, was honoured. She received Al-Dhad shield for the year 2023. Dr Kaltham Jabr al-Kuwari, associate professor in the department of social sciences at Qatar University, received the writer’s shield 2023.
Artist and engineer Mohamed Abdullah Jolo, one of the pioneers of the Qatari song, won the shield of authentic art 2023. Short films were also screened during the ceremony to introduce the honorees’ journey and achievements. Katara General Manager Prof Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti said that the ceremony was the result of an initiative launched by Katara in 2018 out of its belief in strengthening the status of creative people and emphasising their role in building society and enriching the cultural scene, considering that these three categories of creativity reflect the depth and diversity of the Qatari culture. Honouring is part of Katara’s vision to appreciate talents and motivate emerging generations to follow in their footsteps, he added. (QNA)
