Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) organised the ‘You Are Not Alone’ event as part of its “Blossom” campaign in October, the World Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event saw a gathering of specialists, and influential public figures coming together to raise awareness about breast cancer.
The aim was to increase community awareness about the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to prevent cancer and emphasise the importance of early detection of breast cancer, considered one of the most common types of cancer among women in Qatar and worldwide.
There were several activities, most notably a panel discussion with the participation of Dr Artefaa al-Shamari, consultant breast surgeon; Dr Maha al-Subaie, women’s mental health; TV presenter Sheikha al-Mannai, living with breast cancer; and Arab sports icon, Nada Zidane, in addition to the participation of several women living with breast cancer.
Mona Ashkanani, general manager of QCS, said: “Organising the event comes as a continuation of QCS efforts towards raising awareness of cancer, methods of prevention, and early detection.”
