Head coach Carlos Queiroz has named a 24-player Qatar squad for the Jordan International Quad Championship, which begins from tomorrow in Amman. Apart from hosts Jordan, the tournament also features Arabian Gulf Cup champions Iraq and Iran.
In their opening matches, Asian champions Qatar will take on Iraq, while Jordan face Iran tomorrow. The final and a play-off game will be played on October 17. Veteran Portuguese coach Queiroz, who has one eye on the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and Asian Cup, has opted for several changes from the side that lost to Kenya and drew with Russian in friendlies last month.
Goalkeeper Jasem al-Hail, defenders Hazem Ahmed and Pedro Miguel were dropped, with Al Rayyan custodian Fahad Younes finding a place in the squad. Goalkeepers Saad al-Sheeb and Yousef Hassan and defender Boualam Khoukhi missed out after suffering ‘minor injuries’ during training sessions, Qatar Football Association said in a statement. Qatar had a short training camp ahead of the four-nation tournament with Queiroz holding training sessions at the Khalifa International Stadium.
