The School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy (SEAPP) at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) has organised a scientific trip to Geneva in Switzerland for the third cohort of the Executive Master’s Programme in Diplomatic Studies and International Cooperation.
During the five-day trip which concludes Friday, the students will be introduced to the work environment and methods of international organisations, including the United Nations (UN), Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the World Health Organisation, the International Labour Organisation and the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
They will also learn about the work of the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the UN in Geneva and their experiences in cooperating with international organisations.
The delegation is jointly headed by DI's Administrative and Financial Division executive director Eman al-Sulaiti, Diplomatic Studies and International Cooperation Programme head Dr Mawan Qablan, and Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs' (MoFA) Diplomatic Institute director Dr AbdulAziz al-Horr.
Alsulaiti said the trip will help the students enhance their skills, expand their knowledge in the field, and get familiar with the successful practices of international organisations.
Dr al-Horr explained that the students, who are diplomats and officials of the MoFA, will have access to best practices, international experiences and direct interaction with decision makers in major influential institutions worldwide.
Dr Qablan stressed that after this trip, the students will have fulfilled the programme’s learning outcomes by deepening their knowledge and experiences in the field of specialisation, by closely approaching practical reality, after relying on a solid theoretical foundation.
On the first day of the trip, the students visited the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the UN in Geneva, and met with ambassador Dr Hend AlMuftah, permanent representative to the UN Office in Geneva and other international organisations in Switzerland.
They also visited the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and attended a lecture by Mohammed AlNosor, director of the Middle East and North Africa division of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Office, on the history of the Commission, its main areas of interest, and the challenges it faces.
