More than 187,000 people have been displaced across the Gaza Strip in 83 UNRWA-affiliated schools and shelters, said the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported, according to a statement issued by the agency, that the figure is "expected to increase further" as heavy Israeli airstrikes continue.
"Conditions are difficult, with some shelters overcrowded, and with limited availability of potable water," it added.
UNRWA confirmed that every effort is being made to provide basic needs to the internally displaced, and that, in coordination with the World Food Programme, it distributed bread to the displaced in shelters.
Since Oct. 17, 18 UNRWA facilities have been damaged. The UNRWA field office in Gaza has "suffered collateral damage due to airstrikes," where local and international employees are located as a result of air strikes in the Al-Rimal area.
UNRWA schools throughout the Gaza Strip remain closed, it noted.
