Startup Grind Doha recently organised a panel discussion titled ‘Navigating the Funding Landscape in Qatar: What do Investors Really Look For?’
The discussion, which was moderated by Business Start Up Qatar co-founder Steve Mackie, featured industry experts, such as Sheikh Mansoor bin Khalifa al-Thani, chairman of MBK Holding; Cristina Urrutia, investment manager at Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP); Marcel Dridje, board member of European Business Angel Network; Awdesh Chetal, partner at Risin Ventures; and Sara Daniel, CEO of Doha Tech Angels.
The event was attended by business leaders, innovators, startup founders, and aspiring entrepreneurs, who joined the conversation to demystify the world of startup funding and unveil the secrets of attracting investors in Qatar’s dynamic market.
According to Startup Grind Doha, securing the right funding is the lifeblood of any startup in a rapidly evolving business ecosystem. “Qatar, with its burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit, is poised for a new wave of innovation and understanding what investors seek is critical to success. The aim of the event was to shed light on the nuances of startup funding and the expectations of investors in the Qatari context,” Startup Grind Doha emphasised in a statement.
One of the main points raised during the discussion was the question of whether there is enough funding available in Qatar or whether startups are not ready for funding. Similarly, the panel of experts shed light on investor expectations from innovative ideas to robust business plans and market scalability.
The panel discussion and the succeeding Q&A helped the audience capture much information and gain a deeper understanding of the various funding sources available in Qatar, including venture capital, angel investors, and government grants.
According to the organisers, the objective of Startup Grind Doha is to bring the ecosystem in Qatar together.
“While it creates an opening for everyone to learn from each other, it also leads to invaluable networking opportunities. The panel’s discussion about startup investments was unparalleled to any other and that’s exactly what Startup Grind strives for – to make sure that the platform brings high-quality knowledge and expertise to the ecosystem.”
