The Audio Education Complex of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education marked the International Day of Sign Languages, which is celebrated annually on September 23 each year.
On this occasion, the complex held a number of distinguished scientific, sports and entertainment activities, including an introductory workshop on sign languages, in which students, parents, the local community and some government schools participated, in addition to organising of an electronic cultural competition for students.
In a speech at the beginning of the celebration, Director of the Audio Education Complex Munira al-Jusaiman stressed the importance of commemorating this international occasion, noting the keenness of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to celebrate it, for the benefit of students and their community and to develop their knowledge of sign languages and everything related to it.
Certificates and prizes were distributed to the winners and participants in the competitions that were organised on the occasion of the celebration.
International Day of Sign Languages is an opportunity to support and protect the linguistic identity and cultural diversity of all deaf people and other sign language users. According to statistics from the World Federation of the Deaf, there are 70mn deaf people around the world who use more than 300 sign languages.
