Qatar beat Hong Kong 3-1 (21–25, 13–25, 25–22, 21–25) to storm into the knockout stage of the men’s volleyball event at the Hangzhou Asian Games in China on Thursday. Qatar’s spikers, who had defeated Thailand in their other Pool E match on Wednesday, will face Bahrain in their Round of 16 clash on Friday. In football, Qatar meet Palestine in their second Pool D match on Friday. The under-23 squad had lost to Japan in their opening match.
Qatar’s beach volleyball pair Mahmoud Essam and Abdullah Nassim eased past Macau’s Cheong Hou Wang and Wong Wai Hei to enter the last 16 at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Essam and Nassim won 21-12, 21-15 in their final Pool F match. On Friday, Qatar’s top pair Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan will play their last Pool B match against Jaron Requinton and Alnakran Abdilla of the Philippines.
