The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has organised a workshop to detect radioactive materials at the Abu Samra border crossing, aiming at assessing the readiness and preparedness of national personnel to deal with radioactive and nuclear materials.
The workshop, conducted by the Radiation Protection Department, is part of the co-operation between the ministry and the competent authorities at the Abu Samra border crossing. It introduced the procedures for handling radioactive sources, detection methods, and location identification. It also covered the optimal use of radiation detection gates, in addition to a practical training on using measurement devices to detect radioactive sources and materials.
The workshop is part of a series of training sessions carried out by the Radiation Protection Department for border personnel to ensure the highest standards of radiation safety in Qatar. The ministry pointed out that it is committed to organising such continuous training courses for its staff and relevant entities involved in handling these materials to ensure efficiency in regulatory work and enhance capabilities during the meticulous inspection of all imported shipments entering Qatar.
