Qatar Charity (QC) has launched the "Libya Appeal" campaign to stand in solidarity with the people in Libya, where the eastern part of the country, especially Derna, was struck by the devastating floods.
The drive comes to extend a helping hand to the flood-affected people in the areas of shelter, food and water, in addition to providing urgent and essential necessities for the afflicted families.
The campaign aims to provide tents for sheltering the internally displaced persons (IDPs), medical supplies for the injured, as well as food aid, in addition to providing essential items like blankets and other vital supplies for the affected families.
Director of the Emergency and Relief Department at Qatar Charity Khalid Abdulla Alyafei said: "Qatar Charity is preparing to deliver the necessary support to the people of the disaster-stricken areas in Libya, where the humanitarian situation is very challenging, and the scale of destruction is immense.
"We call upon the benefactors of Qatar to support their brothers and sisters in Libya who are going through problematic times, as they have lost their homes and families. We aim, through the 'Libya Appeal' campaign, to contribute to meeting the basic needs of the affected families and offering the necessary support to help them overcome this ordeal," added Alyafei.
The Libyan News Agency reported that out of the 1,500 damaged buildings in Derna, 891 have been completely destroyed by the storm that struck the country a week ago. (QNA)
